<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for supporting a rack shaft that prevents abnormal noise and prevents non-smooth steering feeling at start-up to improve steering feeling. <P>SOLUTION: The device for supporting the rack shaft includes a circular metallic case 17 press-fitted/held on the inner periphery of a housing. A pair of outer peripheral shoulders 18b, 18c of rack bushes 18, each of which is housed in the metallic case 17 and made of a synthetic resin, are supported elastically by first and second O-rings 19, 20 in the axial direction X1 and radial direction R1, respectively. In an early stage of movement of the rack shaft 8 in the axial direction X1, the rack bushes 18 are also moved in the axial direction X1 together with the rack shaft 8 due to a static friction load between the rack shaft 8 and each of rack bushes 18. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
