Methods and apparatus are provided, including a method of emulating branch prediction behavior of an explicit subroutine call, the method comprising recognizing an instruction address indicating an implicit subroutine call to a subroutine, calculating a return address from the instruction address, and storing the return address to an explicit subroutine resource.
