<p>A method for controlling an encoder (1) in a communications system (3) including a plurality of receivers (2), wherein the encoder output consists of a plurality of streams (4) of the kind that at least some subsets of the streams can be decoded without knowledge of every stream of the plurality of streams, the method including the steps of: receiving, for each of the plurality of receivers, feedback information (6) including a measure of a constraint on the rate that may be used to transmit signals to the receiver; obtaining estimates of transmission quality measurements of a decodable subset of the streams using a model of the measure of the constraint; and controlling the encoder to output each of the decodable subsets of the streams in accordance with the obtained estimates of transmission quality measurements.</p> |
