A bottle containing liquid under pressure is closed by an aluminium crown cap 1 having an outwardly flared edge part 4 to its skirt 3 and having corrugations forming radial channels 5, the channels being filled by a resilient or deformable sealing compound such as a rubberised compound which is compressed between the bottle rim flange and the skirt when the latter is bent inwardly and downwardly during closuring. The sealing compound may be applied as a continuous ring, Fig. 3, or in blobs, Fig. 9, which merge when the closure is applied to the bottle. The cap interior is anodised and/or coated with a protective vinyl lacquer. |
