834,667. Trimming &c. books &c. BIEL, H. June 14, 1956 [Nov. 5, 1955], No. 18387/56. Class 31 (1). A method of trimming and cutting paper articles, sheet piles and the like, e.g. exercise books, comprises trimming the work along a long edge in a first direction of feed and performing subsequent trimming operations in a direction of feed angularly displaced from the first direction of feed, the trimming operations being effected by trimming means constantly located with respect to the part of the work to be trimmed. In the machine shown, material A mounted on work-tables A<SP>1</SP> is fed along leg 1, e.g. by means of a conveyer, and trimmed along one longitudinal edge by cutter 3. The material is then fed on another conveyer along leg 2 and while being displaced against a limit stop 4<SP>1</SP> is trimmed along one lateral edge by cutter 4. After displacing the material slightly to the left, by means of a movable stop 5<SP>2</SP>, against a limit stop 5<SP>1</SP>, it is fed under cutter 5 which trims it along the opposite lateral edge. The material is then re-positioned to the right, by means of a movable stop 6<SP>2</SP>, against a limit stop 6<SP>1</SP>, and cut into two sections B by a cutter 6. In the next operation, the corners of the sections B are rounded at 7 by means of punching tools. Finally, the finished products are piled into two bundles, each consisting of five pieces. The round-cornering operation may be omitted. |
