A medical article resembling a soother has a teat portion 1 and a mouth shield portion 2, serving in use to limit the extent of insertion of the teat portion into the baby's mouth. The teat portion 1 is of sufficient length and extends from the mouth shield at an angle towards the hard palate in the roof of the mouth when the shield is so fitted, whereby a distal end portion 4 of the teat portion is adapted in use to bear against the hard palate in the roof of the mouth. The teat portion is formed without voids with a soft surface layer 8 and a harder internal core 9. The shield 2 may be curved. At least the surface layer of the teat may be made of medical-grade silicone, and may be co-moulded or over-moulded over the firm core layer. The teat portion may be of a generally strip form and may have an S-bend or dogleg portion (see figure 29), so the distal end portion is displaced relative to the proximal end portion, which extends along the longitudinal axis 7. |
