PURPOSE: An automatic screen setup system of a digital broadcast receiver and a method thereof are provided to use a space of an output screen as an additional information area according to a screen ratio of a broadcast image, thereby efficiently using a screen. CONSTITUTION: An image information input unit(410) receives image information. An additional information input unit(420) receives additional information. An aspect ratio calculating unit(430) calculates an aspect ratio of the image information. A space calculating unit(440) calculates the space of the output screen by comparing the aspect ratio of the image information with the aspect ratio of the output screen. A screen arrangement setting unit(480) divides the output screen into an image output area and an additional information area to set a screen arrangement. If the aspect ratios are changed, the screen arrangement setting unit automatically arranges the additional information at a preset spot of the additional information area.
