APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING PACKET DATA USING MULTIPLE ANTENNAS IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and method for transmitting packet data using multiple transmission and reception antennas in a wireless communication system are provided. The apparatus receives channel status information between the antennas as feedback information. A feedback signal receiver receives the feedback information including preferred basis transform information. A user classifier classifies users having transmission data streams into groups using the preferred basis transform information, classifying the streams according to the classified groups. A scheduling and demultiplexing block demultiplexes the streams into substreams, selecting a group according to a priority of the group, and selecting a demultiplexed substream according to a priority of the substreams or the user. An Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) block modulates and codes the selected substream. A power allocator allocates transmission power. A transmitter transmits the power-allocated substream through each of the transmission antennas. Packet data can be efficiently transmitted according to channel conditions without wasting bandwidth.
