Class 44 A sliding clasp fastener comprises a pair of tapes 1 each carrying a looped or coiled continuous filament 4 to constitute a row of coupling links, wherein the filament is secured within the groove between two wings 2, 3 provided along a margin of the tape by means of a first row of stitches A, each looped about a respective link of the filament, and a second row of stitches B extending through both of the wings and also the coupling links. The stitches A are constituted by interlinked top 6 and bottom 5 threads, Fig. 2; the needle 7 carrying the top thread successively over the upper part 103 of each filament coil whereby, on tightening, it slides down one side of the coil to encircle the filament as at 105. The wings 2, 3 are then secured by the row B of upper 9 and lower 91 threads interlinked along the axis of the coil. A second embodiment, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), utilizes a serpentine shaped filament. In a further embodiment, Figs. 7-10 (not shown), the wings are formed by folding the edge of the tape back on itself and then forward to provide a triple tape thickness, one wing being constituted by the double thickness, and the other by the single thickness of tape. |
