PURPOSE: A light emitting diode having a pattern of blocking a current and a light emitting diode package are provided to improve external quantum efficiency by preventing a current from being concentrated. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting structure comprises a first conductivity type semiconductor layer, an active layer, and a second conductivity type semiconductor layer. A current spreading layer(120) is located on the light emitting structure and includes a plurality of openings. A first electrode(130) is electrically connected to the first conductivity type semiconductor layer. A second electrode is located on the current spreading layer and electrically connected to the second conductivity type semiconductor layer. A plurality of patterns(150) for blocking a current is located between the second conductivity type semiconductor layer and current spreading layer so that the current is not concentrated around the second electrode the and dispersed.
