<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new faujasite type zeolite containing majority hexacoordinated Al other than tetracoordinated Al composing a zeolite skeleton, and to provide a method for production and use thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The faujasite type zeolite includes silica and alumina, and a molar ratio, SiO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>/Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>is in the range of 4 to 8. The zeolite is characterized in that the ratio, (P<SB POS="POST">6Al</SB>)/(P<SB POS="POST">4Al</SB>) of the peak area (P<SB POS="POST">6Al</SB>) of spectrum of hexacoordinated Al to that (P<SB POS="POST">4Al</SB>) of spectrum of tetracoordinated Al is in the range of 0.4 to 1.0. A lattice constant (a<SB POS="POST">o</SB>) is in the range of 24.40-24.65 Å.
