<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable layout processing of linked text boxes on the same page or different pages to be performed by an existing layout engine. <P>SOLUTION: A method for rendering an electronic document (ED) includes: a step for obtaining an intermediate format of the ED comprising a plurality of containers corresponding to a plurality of linked text boxes in the ED; a step for obtaining data structure comprising a root node associated with a string distributed across the plurality of linked text boxes and a plurality of segment nodes including a plurality of pointers indicating the plurality of containers; a step for executing a traversal of the plurality of segment nodes; a step for, during the traversal, generating a plurality of intermediate pages over which the string is distributed by applying a layout engine to the plurality of containers referenced by the plurality of pointers; and a step for generating a rendered page of the ED by replacing the container with an intermediate page corresponding to the container. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
