摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a glass substrate for magnetic recording medium, which includes a step of end surface polishing capable of removing a processing scratch on the end surface in a short time and smoothing the end surface to achieve a high quality product, without transfer of the glass substrate between end surface polishing devices or brush replacement. <P>SOLUTION: In an end surface polishing process, an end surface 13 of a glass substrate is polished by a brush provided with a rotatable shaft center 31a, a first brush part 31c having a relatively high stiffness and a relatively short length from the shaft center 31a to the tip of the brush part, and a second brush part 31d having a relatively low stiffness and a relatively long length from the shaft center 31a to the tip of the brush part. The end surface polishing process includes a first polishing step of rotating the brush around the shaft center in a state that the first brush part 31c and the second brush part 31d are in contact with the end surface 13 of the glass substrate, and a second polishing step of rotating the brush around the shaft center in a state that the distance between the end surface 13 of the glass substrate and the shaft center 31a of the brush is elongated compared to the state in the first polishing step such that only the second brush part 31d is in contact with the end surface 13 of the glass substrate, in this order. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
