The cylinder (1) has a piston guide device guiding a piston (3) in a radial direction, in a cylinder tube (2). The piston is arranged in the tube in a length-adjustable manner. A stopping element limits an extension movement of the piston. A receiving groove (10) formed in the piston extends in a circumferential direction of the piston. Two semi-circular half-casings (H1, H2) of a piston ring (E) are mounted into the groove, without using tools. The piston is formed by a closed/hollow piston rod. The ring performs a function of the stopping element and/or the guide device.
