<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having a short response time in an ECB display and simultaneously having a nematic phase in a satisfactorily wide range, a preferred birefringence (Δn), and a high voltage holding ratio. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal medium is a nematic liquid crystal medium having a peak time (t<SB POS="POST">max</SB>) determined by a method described in the present specification of 0.25 ms or less and negative dielectric anisotropy, preferably having a quotient (t<SB POS="POST">max</SB>/Δn<SP POS="POST">2</SP>) of the peak time by the square of the birefringence of 22 ms or less; and the present invention relates also to the use of the liquid crystal medium in a liquid crystal display and the liquid crystal display. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
