<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll apparatus that can respond to all types of rolls from a short roll having about 1 m face length to a roll having 10 m face length or more, and can easily change curvatures of a roll surface in an easy, simple and fast way even during an operation. <P>SOLUTION: A roll 12 includes a roll shaft 14 and a roll shell 16 coaxial with each other and a connecting pipe 18 connecting the shaft and the shell. Center parts in a longitudinal direction of the roll shaft 14 and the roll shell 16 are connected by the connecting pipe 18. A shell shaft support 28 is attached to both ends of the roll shell 16, and the shell shaft support 28 is supported by a base plate 26 via a shell bearing 30 and a slide housing 32.
