Provided are: a method for producing stainless steel for fuel cell separators, said stainless steel having excellent electrical conductivity and durability; stainless steel for fuel cell separators; a fuel cell separator; and a fuel cell. Specifically, the stainless steel for fuel cell separators is produced by subjecting stainless steel containing 16 mass% or more of Cr to an electrolysis process and then immersing the resulting stainless steel in a solution that contains fluorine. It is preferable that the electrolysis process is carried out by anodic electrolysis or a combination of anodic electrolysis and cathodic electrolysis and the anodically electrolyzed amount Qa and the cathodically electrolyzed amount Qc satisfy Qa = Qc. It is also preferable that the solution that contains fluorine is hydrofluoric acid or nitric hydrofluoric acid at a temperature of 40°C or more and the hydrofluoric acid concentration [HF] (mass%) and the nitric hydrofluoric acid concentration [HNO3] (mass%) satisfy [HF] = 0.8 × [HNO3]. |
