<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent audio irrelevant to video from an external device from being output in a video audio output device. <P>SOLUTION: A television receiver, if a synchronization signal is present at a Y/CVBS terminal (YES in #2), outputs audio when a composite terminal or a component terminal is selected (#3). Then, if a synchronization signal is absent at the Y/CVBS terminal (NO in #2) and a synchronization signal is present at a VGA terminal (YES in #4), audio is output when the VGA terminal is selected (#5).
