<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of a secondary battery and simplify the process thereof by automatizing a soldering step required when electrically connecting an external terminal formed on an upper case of the secondary battery to a protection circuit module. <P>SOLUTION: The secondary battery comprises: an electrode assembly; a receptacle for housing the electrode assembly; a cap assembly for sealing the receptacle; an upper case for covering the cap assembly; a protection circuit module located between the cap assembly and the upper case, and including a printed circuit board, and a first protection circuit element coupled to the printed circuit board by a first solder; and an external terminal coupled to the printed circuit board by a second solder.
