A device for estimating the state of charge of a battery comprises: a charge and discharge current detection means (1); a terminal voltage detection means (2); a current integration-based state-of-charge estimation means (3) for estimating a current integration method-based state-of-charge (SOCi) and calculating the variance of the current integration method-based state-of-charge on the basis of the detection accuracy information of the detection means (1); an open voltage method-based state-of-charge estimation means (4) for estimating an open voltage method-based state-of-charge (SOCv) from an open voltage value estimated based on charge and discharge current values and a terminal voltage value and using a battery equivalent circuit model and for calculating the variance of the open voltage method-based state-of-charge on the basis of the detection accuracy information of the detection means (1, 2); an error estimation means (6) for estimating the estimation error (ni) of the current integration method-based state-of-charge on the basis of the difference between the open voltage method-based state-of-charge and the current integration method-based state-of-charge, the variance of the current integration method-based state-of-charge, and the variance of the open voltage method-based state-of-charge; and a state-of-charge calculation means (7) for obtaining the state of charge (SOC) of the battery from the current integration method-based state-of-charge and the estimation error.
