[Also in Group XXXII] A tension pulley 5, Fig. 3, on a movable carrier 1, for adjusting the braking on a moving strip 6 by controlling movement of a brake lever 7, is loaded with a substantially constant force by a spring 2 acting through a transmission system. In one example, the spring 2 is coupled to a flexible cable 12 passing over a cam-shaped pulley 10 arranged so that the torque arm reduces with increasing spring tension to produce a constant torque on the shaft 9. A constant force is produced at the carrier 1 by a flexible cable 14 running over a circular pulley 11 on the shaft 9. In a modification, the spring 2, Fig. 5, is coupled to a bell-crank 8 having arms 16a, 16b arranged to produce a substantially constant force at the carrier 1. |
