[Also in Groups XIV and XXV] A constructional system comprises section strut material with edges which are folded over to form channels along the material, cleats slidable to desired positions along the strut material and having edge portions which complement and are received in, and are dimensioned to approximately fill, the crosssectional form of said channels, and tightening- means for locking the cleats in the desired positions by pressing the outer margins of the channels into facial engagement with the opposed edge portions of the cleats and thereby clamping the latter within the channels. In an embodiment, an angle-section strut 10 has folded-over edges 11 for receiving angle-section cleats 12 having tapped holes for bolts 14 which .secure the cleats with the aid of gussets 15. The cleats, which are used to support shelves or wire baskets, may be in two portions, Fig. 3, which are stepped and serrated at 17. The two gussets 15 may be replaced by a single-angled gusset-plate. In another embodiment, the strut and cleat are flat, as shown in Fig. 6. In a further embodiment, the cleat 20 and the bolt 21 are integral, Fig. 7, and a plate 23 and nut 24 are used to effect the joint. A fillet-plate 22 is held in position by the edges of the strut. In a modification, the fastening is effected by a cam 25, Fig. 8, pivotally secured to the shank of the cleat 20 and operated by a handle 25a. For corner-fittings, the gussets may be shaped, as shown in Figs. 11 and 12. |
