[Also in Group XVII] A milk &c. can is made by pressing sheets of aluminium or aluminium alloy to form a deep drawn body 1 and a neck 2 which decreases in diameter, and uniting the parts by fusion welding with the arc or flame presented to the inner surface of the two parts. A ring 7 which may have identification marks and/or handles is secured over the joint by external welding. A lower ring 8 is also secured by external welding, and one of the rings may have an external bead (not shown) for protecting the wall 10. The can is hardened by heat treatment. |
