In a refrigerator lock having a forked latch member 7 which is rockable about a fixed pivot 6 and which by pivotal interposition of a rockable holding means 9 suitably loaded by a spring 13, the holding means 9 is formed by a frame-like housing within which the spring 13 is housed. As shown, a sheet metal casing 4 supports a lock handle 2 on a pivot pin 3 and a casing 5 which is let into the door supports the latch member 7. The latch member 7 is pivotally connected through a pin 10 with the frame member 9, the free end of which is adapted to co-operate with a pin 11 on the handle 2. A sliding member 14 within the member 9 is loaded by the spring 13 against a shoulder of the member 9 when the lock is in the closed condition shown and against a fixed pin 15 when the lock is in the open condition. The pin is so guided in a slot 16 in the frame member 9 that as the handle 2 is moved outwardly to release the latch member 7 from a keeper 8 the pin 10 moves from one side to the other of a dead-centre-position and the member 14 is supported by the pin 15. The handle 2 may then return to its original position, with the pin 11 disengaged from the hooked end of the member 9.
