A support apparatus, which may be a scaffolding structure or ladder, is provided comprising at least first and second legs 2, wherein the support apparatus is provided with leveling means comprising: at the lower end of each of the first and second legs a cylinder 4 and piston 5 unit which may be a dual or double acting hydraulic cylinder, wherein movement of the pistons relative to the cylinders permits variation in the length of each of the first and second legs; fluid communication means 8, 9 for establishing at least one closed fluid passageway between the cylinder and piston units; and valve means 10 for controlling the passage of fluid. In a fist position, the valve means permit fluid to flow between the cylinder and piston units such that the length of each of the legs is accommodated to the profile of the ground, and in a second position, the valve means do not permit fluid to flow between the cylinder and piston units thereby locking the cylinder and piston units in position. An alternative embodiment has pivoting stabilizer members 16 (figure 3). Also disclosed is a track or roller 20 for preventing damage to a surface. |
