In a vehicle with charge compression via a turbocharger (18, fig 5) and/or supercharger (29, fig 5), a driver can select a boost condition in which inlet manifold pressure is over-boosted above an economy pressure 11 to a high performance mode 12 or intermediate mode 13 regardless of accelerator pedal position. An ECU can control valves (33-35, fig 5) and disengage a supercharger to control the inlet manifold pressure. This gives faster engine response to a demand for raised engine output. |
