摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably perform focusing control even when a position or a size of an object such as a face changes. SOLUTION: The focus adjustment device includes a detection means for detecting an area showing a prescribed object from an image, an AF evaluated value generation means for generating an AF evaluated value of the image, and an automatic focus adjustment means for performing focus adjustment by using the AF evaluated value. The AF evaluated value generation means sets the area of the object in the image, and also sets a focus detection area for detecting a focal state including the area of the object (S203), calculates the AF evaluated values classified by the areas for each set area (S204), determines an addition ratio of the area of the object to the focus detection area on the basis of at least either the position or the size of the area of the object (S205 and S210), and generates the AF evaluated value by weighting and adding the AF evaluated values classified by the areas on the basis of the determined addition ratio (S215). When the addition ratio obtained this time becomes less than that obtained previous time, the addition ratio determined previous time is used for a predetermined time (S209 and S214).
