Provided is a novel phosphor for scintillator that can absorb radiation and it into visible light obviously, and has a short fluorescence decay time. Proposed is a phosphor for scintillator that contains a lutetium sulfide-containing host material and an activator ion, for instance, a phosphor a composition represented by the general formula (Lu 1-x Pr x ) 2 S 3 , or (Lu 1-x Ce x ) 2 S 3 .
