A radiant oil heater has an openwork guard 13 hingedly mounted on it, catch means on the side of the heater opposite the hinge comprising a self-closing guard retainer 19 and a guide clip 18 adapted to direct a striker 24a on the guard into engagement with the retainer 19 which is deflected by the striker engaging a cam face 28 as the guard closes. The clip 18 comprises a pair of fingers 18a with a convergent space S between them which receives the lower limb of a U-shaped wire loop 24 the upper limb of which constitutes the striker 24a. The edge 25 of the guard engages bent portions 26 on the fingers 18a as the guard closes, and is finally retained behind them. The retainer 19 and clip 18 are mounted on a bracket 20 secured to the rear face of the heater casing 10 and project through holes 22, 23. If the guard is hinged at its upper or lower edge, the retainer is spring-urged into hooked engagement with the striker 24a. |
