PURPOSE: A motion vector coding and decoding method and an apparatus therefor are provided to improve the picture quality of an play image. CONSTITUTION: A motion vector coding apparatus determines a first motion vector and a second motion vector related to a current block. The apparatus determines each prediction motion vector of the first motion vector and second motion vector. The apparatus produces first and seconds differential motion vector. The apparatus encodes the first and second differential motion vectors. The resolution of the first motion vector and resolution of the second motion vector are different from each other.
