PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce shocks that can be generated at speed-change by reducing variation of output torque. SOLUTION: ECU executes a program including a step (S116) for performing control such that torque capacity Tch of a friction engagement element made from the engagement state to the release state by down shift to start an inertia phase when power-on down shift is performed (YES at S102); and a step (S124) for discontinuing gradual reduction of the torque capacity Tch when a variation ratio of an input shaft rotation speed NI of an automatic transmission reaches to a target variation ratioΔN(1) (YES at S122).
