PURPOSE: A pouch type secondary battery is provided to form enough distance between a positive electrode lead and a negative electrode lead by forming the electrodes to be stepped toward different directions, thereby capable of minimizing short circuits between the electrode leads. CONSTITUTION: A pouch type secondary battery comprises: an electrode assembly comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator; a battery case(10) accepting the electrode assembly; and a positive electrode lead(11) and a negative electrode lead(12) protruded to outside the battery case electrically connecting with the electrode. The positive electrode lead and the negative electrode lead protruded to outside the battery case are stepped toward opposite directions each other. The separated distance of the protruded positive electrode lead and the negative electrode lead is 3-10 mm. Between the positive electrode lead and the negative electrode lead protruded to outside, an insulating member(13) is inserted.
