The device (1) has a front windscreen wiper mechanism (9) provided in a front side of a vehicle (3). A rear windscreen wiper mechanism (15) is provided in a rear side of the vehicle, where the device controls the activation of the mechanisms and retards the execution of command activation of the rear mechanism at the time of suspension from the execution of command activation of the front mechanism, so that the rear mechanism is controlled to maintain the activation of the front mechanism during a suspension period. An independent claim is also included for a method for activating and controlling a windscreen wiper system arranged on-board a vehicle.
