The device has a quenching chamber (5) which is provided with guide rail and guide plate. The switching contact pair provided with stationary switching contact and movable switching contact (4) is arranged between metal plates. The coil axis (10) of solenoid coil (2) is arranged parallely with respect to metal plates. The portions (20,21) of metal plates are magnetically coupled with respective ends of solenoid coil so that magnetic field generated by solenoid coil is induced into an area formed between metal plates.
