An apparatus comprising: a connector, the connector being configured to enable a physical connection and a data connection with a peripheral device; a switch, the switch being associated with the connector and being configured to enable generation of a connection signalling based on the physical connection between the peripheral device and the connector; and a processor, the processor configured to: determine, in response to the connection signalling, whether or not the physical connection between the apparatus and peripheral device has been established; and enable the data connection between the apparatus and the peripheral device based on the determination.
