<p>The present invention addresses the problem of providing a production method whereby it is possible to produce glycol from a polyhydric alcohol at a high selectivity and yield. The aforementioned problem is solved by using a silver catalyst for a reaction for synthesizing hydroxy ketone from a polyhydric alcohol having adjacent hydroxyl groups and using a hydrogen-adding catalyst for a reaction for synthesizing glycol from the hydroxy ketone.</p>
