A friction pivot bearing, intended to be used for windows, comprises a stationary housing 6 having a bore 8, 9, of double-conical form widening towards each end and a turnable pivot portion 11 comprising a conical head 10 engaging the surface 8 of the bore, a pin 12 the end 15 of which engages a fitting 4 in a movable sash frame 5, and a conical disc 16 non-rotatably carried by a non-circular portion 14 of the pin and movable towards the head 10 into engagement with the surface 9 of the bore by means of a nut 18 on the pin to regulate the friction of the bearing. The nut 18 is provided with a lock nut 19. The end 15 of the pin is non-circular and is inserted from one end of the fitting 4 through a slot 23 into a space 24, and a filling-piece 25 is then inserted into the slot and secured therein by a screw 26. The pin 12 has a further nut 32 for lateral adjustment of the sash.
