<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine that can prevent a vane of a valve timing varying mechanism from colliding with a housing due to the effect of torque variation. <P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine, which is controlled by an electronic control device 100 that is the control device for the internal combustion engine includes: an oil circulation system 400 for carrying out a low pressure control to reduce an amount of oil circulated to a demand part; and a hydraulic driven valve timing varying mechanism 200 for varying a valve timing using the pressure of supplied oil. The electronic control unit 100 carries out the low pressure control when the demand part has less demand for oil so that a driving load of an oil pump 40 acting on the internal combustion engine is reduced.
