The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling the transmission power of a base station in a wireless communication system, in which the signal-to-noise ratio for a target component carrier is calculated, and, if the signal-to-noise ratio is lower than a preset threshold value, a preset transmission power is increased or a request for reducing the transmission power is sent to a neighboring base station, to thereby recover the signal-to-noise ratio to a level higher than the threshold value. According to the present invention, inter-cell interference is prevented and channel utilization is improved in a wireless communication system, thus achieving the improved performance of the wireless communication system.
