Disclosed are methods and materials for assessing cardiac diseases, including cardiac failure, cardiac hypertrophy, thoracic aortic aneurysm, and left ventricular remodeling based on one or more level of the target microRNAs in tissue or a body fluid of the subject. The level of microRNAs can be measured in cardiac tissue, or in a body fluid, such as plasma and serum.
