An image encoding method, which enables motion vectors to be predicted with great precision and enables images to be encoded with great encoding efficiency, is provided. This image encoding method includes: a calculation step (S101) for calculating, from a motion vector of a disparity block, a disparity prediction vector for predicting the motion vector of a block to be encoded; a selection step (S102) for selecting, from one ore more prediction vector candidates, which include the disparity prediction vector, a prediction vector to be used to predict the motion vector of the block to be encoded; and an encoding step (S103) for encoding identification information corresponding to the prediction vector selected from the one or more prediction vector candidates, and a difference vector, which is the difference between the prediction vector and the motion vector of the block to be encoded.
