Improving the surface quality of a semi-finished product made of steel during hot deformation by influencing the scale layer resulting during the production process, comprises pressing one of the three major scale components, which are three different characteristics main iron oxides of mill scales (wustite, magnetite and hematite) and deforming the obtained cylindrical and rectangular samples in appropriate simulation devices and analyzing.
