<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for quickly confirming contents of an image file set with a password. <P>SOLUTION: A scanner 10 comprises: a generation unit 50 for generating an image file F1 in which image data is included and a password Pw is set; a memory 32 for storing file information W; a network interface 34 for receiving a request to set a password different from the password Pw; and a setting unit 54 for cancelling password setting of the image file F1 by the password Pw stored in the file information W of the memory 32 to set the password different from the password Pw.
