872,486. Moulding electrodes. BICKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc. Jan. 15, 1959 [March 3, 1958], No. 1497/59. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electrode component comprises a mixture of a metal and a salt of the metal compressed into an integral mass. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, a quantity of silver metal powder preferably precipitated grade, and a quantity of silver chloride powder preferably of reagent grade are intimately mixed together. The mixture is compressed in a preferably cylindrical die at a pressure exceeding 30,000 p.s.i. to produce the integral mass 10 and a lead 11 of for example silver or platinum is attached.. In alternative embodiments, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), the mixture is compressed in a length of cylindrical tubing or a cup shaped container, to which the lead is subsequentlly attached. A further form of component may be formed by filling a first zone of a die with the metal powder and a continuous second zone with the mixture of metal and metal salts. Alternative metal salt combinations are: other silver-silver halides silver-silver sulphide copper-copper sulphide bismuth-bismuth fluoride. |
