<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical body drive module which has a simple structure and performs the directional conversion and the positioning of a transportation article in a short time, and a transportation device using the spherical body drive module. <P>SOLUTION: The spherical body drive module 10 comprises: a spherical body 11 which abuts on the lower face of the transportation article and is rotatable; a drive mechanism 12 which rotates the spherical body 11; a spherical body holding member 13 which rotatably holds the spherical body 11; a base pedestal 14 for the spherical body holding member 13 and the drive mechanism 12; and a cover member 17 which is attached to the base pedestal 14 via a support member 15, covers the spherical body holding member 13 and the drive mechanism 12, and exposes the upper part of the spherical body 11 from an opening 16 of the upper face. The drive mechanism 12 is composed: of first and second drive wheels 18, 19 which abut on the spherical body 11 from a direction orthogonal to the center of the spherical body 11 in a plane view; first and second rotation drive sources 20, 21 of the first and second drive wheels 18, 19; and first and second auxiliary receiving members 22, 23 which oppose the first and second drive wheels 18, 19 with the spherical body 11 sandwiched therebetween.
