<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium excellent in electromagnetic conversion characteristics and travel characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: When a distance between a first peak and a second peak of the differential curve obtained from the luminance curve of the cross section of a magnetic recording medium containing a nonmagnetic support, a nonmagnetic layer formed on one of the main surfaces of the nonmagnetic support and a magnetic layer formed on the main surface of the nonmagnetic layer is defined as an average thickness t of the magnetic layer side, the average luminance value of the nonmagnetic layer is defined as 0, the maximum luminance value of the magnetic layer is defined as 100, the average thickness of an area of a luminance value of 70 to 30 of the magnetic layer opposite to the nonmagnetic layer is defined as the average thickness L1 of a first mixture layer, and the average thickness of an area of a luminance value of 70 to 30 of the nonmagnetic layer side of the magnetic layer is defined as the average thickness L2 of a second mixture layer and the residual flux density of the magnetic layer is defined as Mr. Mr, t, L1 and L2 are regulated to satisfy the following relationships (1), (2) and (3): (1) 0.0020 μT m≤Mr×t≤0.015 μT m, (2) 2 nm≤L1≤6 nm and (3) 0.1≤L2/t≤0.45. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
