Provided is a polyimide powder which does not contain metal impurities that are generated by abrasion of a machine during pulverization by the machine or the like and which has an average particle diameter of 25 µm or less. The polyimide powder is an assembly of fine particles that are obtained by precipitating a polyimide dissolved in a treatment solution that contains a basic substance. The residual amount of an alkali metal, which is the basic substance contained in the treatment solution, is 1% or less relative to the total amount of the powder. Consequently, adverse effect of the remaining alkali metal can be reduced, thereby hindering the progress of polyimide decomposition by the alkali metal.
