<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing metal nanowires by which single metal nanowires are easily obtained. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing metal nanowires includes reacting a metal salt, a reducing agent and a polar polymer in the presence of a compound represented by formula (1) below.
