<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel process for producing 2-oxo-4-methylthiobutanoic acid or its salt. <P>SOLUTION: The process for producing 2-oxo-4-methylthiobutanoic acid or its salt includes a step (1) of reacting methanethiol with an organic base, and a step (2) of reacting the product obtained in the step (1) with 2-oxo-3-butenoic acid. The organic base includes, for example, tertiary amines such as triethylamine, trimethylamine, diisopropylethylamine, tri-n-butylamine and N-methylmorpholine, and nitrogen-containing heterocyclic aromatic compounds such as pyridine, quinoline and N-methylimidazole. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
