In a power steering system a steering column part 1 Fig. 1 and a rotatable input component 2 of the steering gear are connected by resilient strips 18 which permit relative angular movement with a resultant relative axial movement to effect the operation of the control valve 3. The strips 18 are preferably helical and may form an integral part of a metal sleeve 14 which is secured by pins 16, 17 to the ends of the column 1 and input component 2. In this example the component 2 is axially fixed by a bearing 12 in the casing 4 of the valve body and the column 1 moves axially with the valve 3 to which it is connected by a bearing 19 and sleeve 20. Alternatively the input component 2 or both components 1, 2 may move axially to actuate the valve 3. Specifications 873,091 and 873,093 are referred to. |
